University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd

Education – Health – Cultural Diversity

The University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd (PH Schwäbisch Gmünd) offers Bachelor and Master Programmes that are at the same time research- and practice-oriented. There are degrees in teacher training for primary education, lower secondary education or vocational education as well as in other fields of education, health promotion and intercultural relations. Close collaboration with numerous on-the-job training schools, public and private institutions, corporations and more than 40 international partners in higher education gives students the opportunity to test, apply and develop their academic findings in internships and projects in Germany and abroad.

Future-oriented academic disciplines like teacher training, health promotion, early childhood studies, promotion of language acquisition and STEM subjects, counselling and promotion of psychosocial development as well as cultural diversity are all part of the academic profile of the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd. Students benefit from a wide range of opportunities to acquire additional skills and from advanced qualifications after graduation thanks to key research fields, continuing education programmes and modules of the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd’s own “Staufer Studienmodel” (model of higher education). The continuing development of research and application centres like the Centre of Excellence in Health Promotion, the Centre of Media Literacy or the “Picture Book Workshop”, a programme designed to foster language acquisition and literacy, ensures up-to-date research and education with a focus on professionalization at an early stage of studies.

The university is situated in beautiful countryside to the east of the metropolitan region of Stuttgart. With its manageable size of around 2,800 students and 300 members of staff, it provides excellent and individual support for students. The university is committed to diversity and family-friendliness. Members of the university who are parents of small children have access to the PH’s own day care.

With the Centre for Knowledge Transfer (ZWPH) and the Institute for Continuing Education and Higher Education Didactics, the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd has established professional institutions offering part-time study programmes and a variety of continuing education courses.
